Recently, we had the pleasure of designing and installing a whole-home audio system for one of our clients. Here, we’ll lay out the groundwork and some of the details that go into delivering high-quality music to every room.

The Makings of a Whole-Home Audio System
Our client’s key objective was to experience high-performance music in every area of their home and extend it into their outdoor areas. To accomplish corner-to-corner, even coverage requires optimal speakers, placement, and calibration. For this project, we chose Paradigm speakers, which are known for creating an immersive audio environment.
Because the home contained numerous windows, the best application was in-ceiling speakers placed away from the corners of the rooms. This placement provided a more balanced sound without nodes and rarefactions that can distort the bass.
Additional Equipment in a Distributed Audio System
We also integrated an Anthem MDX-16 multi-zone smart amplifier. This whole-house distribution amp provides up to 16 channels and eight zones, enabling our team to create areas where family members can simultaneously listen to different audio sources. Carefully calibrated, it delivers stunning audio to every room.
Its technical capabilities include tuning each room for a stunningly balanced sound and excellent performance.
We also selected the Control4 home automation platform for one-touch and voice control of home entertainment, lighting, climate, and shades. While the motorized shades offer effortless control of daylight and privacy, they also subdue the high-frequency bounce to make each room sound great.
Additionally, Control4 offers an in-depth streaming music platform and effortless selection of the area and the source. As one of the top Control4 integration firms in the Valley, with two of the best programmers on our staff, we’re confident in creating an optimized smart home and whole-home music system.
More Than Music
In the great room, we chose a Sony surround sound receiver and used a James soundbar to match the exact size of their Sony TV. Paradigm speakers and an in-wall subwoofer completed the optimum audio experience for watching movies, the big game, or playing a round of Fortnite.
The Installation
This installation was particularly challenging due to a flat roof, poured concrete walls, and very little room between the ceiling and the roof. Fortunately, our team has had lots of experience and is especially good at retro jobs like this one, resulting in clients who were extremely happy with the result.
Playing music throughout the home at the touch of a button, in any room, and at any volume while allowing each family member to enjoy their own genre is critical to enhancing the quality of life. As the saying goes, “If music is the spice of life, play on.”
